Ornament Lip Balm Favor featuring My Favorite Things Lip Balm Pouch and Die

I like handmade holiday favors and ornaments, how about you? :)

I’m so excited to share this super cute and simple Holiday favor with you today. I call it my Merry Kiss-mas Ornament.  On one side it is this pretty ornament that hangs on your Christmas tree and on the other side it holds a little surprise using the Lip Balm dies and stamps from My Favorite things.

To create the lip balm part of the ornament you need these lip balm pouches, the My Favorite Things Die-namics Lip Balm Window & Frame dies which consists of a base to cut the opening and a frame to cut the perfect finishing touch to your favor and the wonderful My Favorite things Sending Smooches stamp set with awesome sentiments for any occasion.  This has to be one of my favorite sets My Favorite Things has ever done.  Supplies are listed at the bottom of this post.

YouTube Tutorial

Check out this quick little video to help you recreate it :)  I would love to see what this card inspires you to make.  If you happen to post them on Instagram tag #perkypennypapers so I will have a heads up to check it out :)

I am attempting to create videos that are short and sweet and to the point.  We are all busy and my intention is for you to get as much information and ideas for a project in as short a period of time as possible.  This week's video is a double feature:)  Let me know what you think in the comments below and be sure to subscribe to my YouTube Channel.  It is much appreciated :)

To create the Circles for my ornament I used the largest die from the My favorite things Die-Namics Stiched Circle Stack.  You could use any die shape you like as long as it fits the lip balm pouch and is symmetrical.  I cut out 8- 4” x 4” circles from a 12 x 12 sheet of Christmas patterned paper that I had in my stash and one - 4” x 4” circle from some complimentary vanilla cardstock.  The vanilla will be used as the base of our ornament.  I took one of the patterned circles and used the My Favorite Things Die-namics Lip Balm Window die to cut an opening.  I chose to cut it on a diagonal to show off the pretty paper.

Before assembling my ornament I took the time to create my tag using this stitched heart die from Lawn Fawns tiny tags.  I then stamped the sentiment Merry Kiss-Mas onto my tag with Altenew’s Ruby Red Ink and attached some string.  I then used a small amount of Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive to attach the tag to the back of my pouch cover piece so that it had a chance to dry before I put my ornament together because I didn’t want the wet glue to cause problems when trying to release the lip balm from the pouch.

To assemble the ornament I took each of the remaining patterned circles and folded and creased them in the center.  My paper had some word details so I made sure when I was folding that all of the words would be displayed in the correct way.  After folding all of the circles I used my Tombow Dot Tape Runner to apply adhesive to one side of the folded circle and then attached the it  to the vanilla circle.  I made sure to line it up with the edge.  I repeated this process a couple of times and then added the string into the middle with the Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.  I doubled the string up and left a large loop on the top and let it hang out the bottom.  I will trim this later.  The string will then dry in place while I am finishing the assembly of the ornament so I can hang it fairly soon after it is completed.

When I glued my last piece to my stack of folded circles I finished this part of the ornament by applying adhesive to the last side and adhering it to the vanilla circle and then spreading out the circles to make my ornament look nice and full.

The bow consists of 1 piece of ribbon which you will see me tying around the string with a knot and then trimming the ends to give them some little fish tails and then a separate bow that I have already tied leaving a good amount of access on either side.  I use glue dots to adhere the bow to the knot I created with the other piece of ribbon.  I find glue dots to be great for attaching bows onto cards and gifts because they have a squishy thickness to them that I can push the fabric of the ribbon into for a nice firm hold.

And now it is time to attach the lip balm to the back of the ornament.  I run my dot runner around the outside edge of the circle and then pop the pouch and chapstick in.  In This application there is no need to put adhesive on the pouch.  Then maybe you will find them lying around after your party and you can reuse them.  Last, making sure the sentiment heart doesn’t fall behind, I then attach the back, lining it up with the vanilla circle.

This completes my ornament/holiday favor.  I think I will be making more of these.  They are very easy and so much fun.
